After Devimon was defeated, Gennai sent the kids on a quest to find these tags. They were all located in a box, in a convenience store in an undersea cavern in the ocean between File Island and the Server continent. The digidestined wear them around the neck, and they hold each child's own crest.

The crests represent the digidestined's good traits in a physical form. They were all sprawled out across the continent of Server and each child found their own crest at different intervals. The tags along with the crests allow the digimon to digivolve up to Ultimate level. Here are the digidestined's crests:

Tai: Crest of Courage Mimi: Crest of Sincerity
Matt: Crest of Friendship Joe: Crest of Reliability
Sora: Crest of Love T.K.: Crest of Hope
Izzy: Crest of Knowledge Kari: Crest of Light

Izzy's famous pineapple laptop computer was utterly essential to the digidestined later on in the series. It enabled contact between Gennai and the group, and also housed the Digimon Analyser, giving the kids access to information about the digimon they had seen or fought. Izzy's laptop was modified to include a dock for downloading information from the kid's digivices.
